  • Regulations are rules, restrictions and guidelines that media products have to follow

It is up to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) to put a rating on any music, film or Tv products.

One reason we regulate films is because we need to make sure that we don't show young children will want to see it.

Harold and Kumar - Themes of drugs can suggest a 15. There is also use of casual and comedic racism. Aggressive use of swear words.

In "the Land before Time", it is a cartoon and therefore it means that people can establish between reality and something else. 

Porky's revenge - suggestion of sexual acts would make it an 18. There is also nudity within this film.

Analysis/Audience responses: Serif font is almost sophisticated and would attract female audiences as they would feel this is a sophisticated product. It is also stereotypically feminine. The pink is quite delicate and dainty. The woman in the photo is of a woman who seems to be in her 30s. Her features are very smooth as well as having perfect teeth, and this would make women feel that they must read this magazine to be as perfect as her. (mise-en-scene). There is also a huge stress on being a housewife in this magazine, which is implied by the lexis about a home lifestyle such as "kitchen". (mode of address). Audience Responses: Some women could take from this a type of freedom that they can make their kitchen their own and it is something they can be proud of  The articles are boring and the middle bottom article is quite condescending as it uses lexis such as "girl" which evokes a feeling of weakness Some women may not be interested in this at all whereas other may pay more attention in the kitchen There is a reminder here that you should get the "man in your life" to put it together, as though women need to marry or have a partner It's suggesting that you need to be smart about your money, which is a reminder that women don't earn a lot of money however it is being positive about it The DIY aspect is effective because it shows how women are being made to feel that they can actually do something with their lives  The photograph of a woman showing her son how to cook even though men aren't necessarily the cooks of the house The repeated use of w

What do you think has gone particularly well so far this year? What are your strengths? I think what has gone well so far is that I am understanding more terminology this year and how I can incorporate them into my exams. I also feel as though I am quite strong in picking up the meanings of terms quite quickly, and therefore it is easy to be able to put them into answers. What is stopping you from achieving your goals? What threats might you face, (for example not enough time, lack of organisation, pressure from other subjects...) I am very restless, and get distracted from things easily.
