Marketing is a key part of selling a media product, and by using promotional campaigns it ensures that the product can attract and maintain audiences. By using viral marketing campaigns and digital convergence, producers can reach not only local audiences but also audiences globally. Whilst 'Les Revenants' uses more traditional marketing campaigns through advertising, 'Humans' uses the more unusual viral marketing technique, using the brand of 'Persona Synthetics' from within the TV show. 

CONTENT - 

- the shows' own concepts (i.e. Humans intertextual sci-fi to Blade runner and typical UK shows like Doctor Who with aspects of hyperreality, Les Revenants uses the fact they are French as a USP and they are very dark as well as Scottish band Mogwai for soundtrack)
- 'Humans' uses persona synthetics to advertise the show creating a hermeneutic code and maybe makes people second guess, links to classic 'War of the Worlds', not only encourages Fandom 'Henry Jenkins) but also hyperreality (Beudrillard)
- Uses 'token' underrepresented characters
- 'Les Revenants' uses British magazine reviews in order to sell the show within the adverts, not only displayed on Canal+ but also Channel 4 in the UK

MARKETING CAMPAIGNS EXT. -

- 'Humans' twitter feed is under the alias of 'We Are People', and this combined with Persona Synthetics website creates interactivity (fandom) with the world of 'Humans'
- Use of viral marketing is key to success of 'Humans', links to the Blair Witch Project
- Online media means that the product can be distributed globally
- Advertising on UK TV magazines which are local and therefore distribute throughout the country
