ANALYSIS OF HUMANS: OPENING SCENES the first shot of a warehouse full of people has a dolly shot which shows the vastness and multitude of bodies in there Crane shot/high angle of the people with only one moving gives the girl significance Introduction to the characters by having an establishing shot of the city, shots within the house and mid shots of each character Low key and cold lighting within the warehouse makes it seem secretive and sneaky Contrast and binary opposite of the green and bright with natural lighting where the real people are Use of a low angle shot of the moon could be referential to the supernatural or something inhuman like werewolves Long shot of the living room and the Hawkins family introduces the characters but also presents the ideological perspective that modern families are reliant on technology and families are used to commodities within the household Male gaze theories are in practice here because the camera teases the way that the females are

HUMANS - ep 1

Episode 1 What science fiction codes and conventions are evidenced? Are these utilised in a typical or atypical way?               The show is set in the current world, and what makes it more science fiction is the setting               of the science labs and the more dystopian ideologies of robots. The sound track is mostly               computer generated (synthetic), and this adds to the atmosphere of the 'synthetic' beings                 within the show. What groups are represented? What ideological perspective?               Modern day representations of human beings here is juxtaposed by the 'synth' people and               this comes into question what the ideologies of being a human or person should be.                        Cultures are widely represented within this film with black, white and asian actors being                used to play both synth and human parts.               The main part of this show is based on a family and this family
